Northwest Ohio has been hit hard by the country’s economic recession, especially with its strong ties to the automotive industry. In order to develop a successful strategy for the region to re-position itself for a strong economic recovery, the College of Business Administration is teaming up with WBGU-PBS to host a series of four town hall meetings around northwest Ohio and then broadcast a television program that summarizes the results from these meetings.

According to the director of the Dallas-Hamilton Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, Rodney Heiligmann, the purpose of this collaborative project is to engage in conversations and build a consensus around key issues related to regional economic development.

Heiligmann says the town hall meetings will feature brief presentations from experts in the College of Business Administration regarding the current state of the economy and the Center for Regional Development which will report on the economic trends over the past two years. The panelists will also discuss a paradigm shift in the way we approach business and industry in our region.

Besides the panelists, one or two local business leaders from the hosting towns will also speak about the challenges and opportunities for businesses in the area. Following these presentations, Heiligmann will host an hour-long discussion with audience members and the panel of experts.

The following is a schedule of the town hall meetings:

Wednesday, July 22 - Defiance at Defiance College
Thursday, July 23 - Lima at Veterans Memorial Civic Center
Tuesday, July 28 - Findlay at University of Findlay
Thursday, July 30 - Fostoria at Roppe Training Center

WBGU-PBS will later air a two-hour program in August which will include edited segments from the town hall meetings as well as a panel of experts live in the studio who will discuss the concerns and suggestions coming out of the town hall meetings. The panelists will also answer viewers’ questions phoned in during the live broadcast.

The live broadcast, “Economic Crossroads: Retooling for the Future,” will be aired on Thursday, August 6, from 8:00-10:00 pm on WBGU-PBS.
