During the month of October, the Institute for Supply Management student organization held a number of very successful events. We took 29 students and three faculty members on a tour of the Ford Motor Company’s Mustang plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. We had the opportunity to learn more about Ford’s supply chain management activities from two of their supply management representatives and three of their staff engineers. During the plant tour we saw how Ford uses a Just-in-Time inventory management system to provide parts and components directly to the production line. We saw how they manufacture the automobiles from raw materials of steel frames to finished products of automobiles coming off of the production line. It was truly rewarding to see the process first hand.
In terms of community service for October, more than 20 members of the ISM student organization worked at both on-campus and off-campus events. We supported the College of Business Administration at the annual Homecoming tailgate tent. ISM student representatives greeted guests of the College as they entered the tent as well as assisted with the raffle for prizes. In addition, members of the ISM student organization provided community service at the Wood County Historical Society Halloween Festival. Our student representatives provided support at many of the games, food booths and other festival activities. We are proud to note that ISM has supported this event each year since fall 2007.
On October 20, the Institute held its fall fundraiser activity on the BGSU campus. We coordinated with a local vendor to come to campus and make fresh hot kettle corn. Students involved in the ISM student organization worked all day helping with the kettle corn sales. This fundraiser even helps to support some of the events that ISM holds during the year. Thanks to all of the faculty, staff and students who purchased kettle corn in support of ISM’s fundraiser event.
Finally, the ISM student organization, along with the APICS student organization, held an etiquette banquet with a speaker from Goodrich Corporation. Over 70 people participated in this event.
