Senior Supply Chain Students Mentor Freshmen and Sophomores

Starting this fall, a Mentor/Mentee program was implemented by the Institute of Supply Management’s student organization in the Department of Management. This unique program matches freshmen and sophomores with seniors who serve as their mentors during fall semester.  Already the mentors have provided professional development information to their mentees.  The event was held at the BGSU Student Recreation Center where a question and answer session was held, along with team-building exercises.

According to Dr. Amelia Carr, director of the Supply Chain Management Institute, more than 39 seniors are serving as mentors in the program.  "We are still accepting freshmen and sophomores who would like to be mentored by one of our senior students.  The mentors are available to assist students with all aspects of their academic and professional development needs at the University.  Mentors encourage their mentees to get involved early and to stay focused as they manage social activities with their academic work to be successful."

Dr. Carr adds that mentors are available via email and telephone, and they plan to attend a number of on-campus events with their mentees such as the ISM/APICS professional development meetings, networking and sporting events, and community service events.

At the end of the semester, an assessment of the program will be conducted. "So far, it is a great experience for everyone who is involved!" remarks Dr. Carr.
