Applied Statistics and Operations Research

Master's of Science in Applied Statistics

Bowling Green State University offers a Master of Science degree in Applied Statistics which is sponsored jointly by the Department of Applied Statistics and Operations Research and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Students can be admitted to the program by either department. (Please see the BGSU Graduate College website for admission information and the on-line application.)

The primary objective of this master's program is to provide an education in statistics to the student who wishes to become a professional statistician in business, industry, or government. Moreover, this program provides excellent preparation for the student who subsequently wishes to pursue the Ph.D.

The student may select from a wide variety of offerings in both applied statistics and mathematical statistics. In addition, the student is required to supplement study in statistics with a minimum of 6 semester hours in a cognate area. Examples of cognate areas chosen by recent graduates include operations research, computer science, biology, economics, and actuarial science. Please see the MSAS program outline and our brochure for more information. Beginning in Fall 2011, we also have a specialization in Business Analytics in addition to the MS Applied Statistics degree.
