Six graduate credits in an approved cognate area. These are non-statistics courses taken in an area which supports graduate study in statistics (e.g., mathematics or computer science), or in an area where statistics can be applied (e.g., operations research, biology, economics, business administration, sociology, or psychology).

Students are reminded that elective and cognate courses must be chosen such that the courses included in the degree include a minimum of 18 hours at the 600 level or above. MATH 6410, MATH 6420 AND STAT 6750 (required courses) already provide 9 hours toward this requirement.
