Econ Graduate Programs

The Graduate Program in Economics at Bowling Green State University includes at least 30 hours of course work. There are certain general and coursework prerequisites that should be met for admission. Students with a strong background usually meet all these prerequisites and therefore can complete the program in one calendar year, while other students who have met the coursework requirements partially will take 3 or 4 semesters. In general students must pass two comprehensive exams, one on micro and macro theory, and the other on economic policy. If a student writes a thesis, only the comprehensive exam on theory is required.

The required courses of the program are (see specific course descriptions):

  • ECON 502 - Econometrics
  • ECON 573 - History of Economic Thought
  • ECON 607 - Graduate Econometrics
  • ECON 610 - Microeconomic Theory
  • ECON 611 - Macroeconomic Theory
  • ECON 619 - Economic Policy
  • ECON 671 - Policy Topics in Quantitative and Theoretical Economics

Admission Criteria:
Admission is determined on the basis of GPA, GRE scores, and letters of recommendation.

Financial Aid:

Financial Aid  is available on a competitive basis.  Undergraduate GPA, GRE scores, letters of recommendation, the student's statement, and other materials are all used in the aid decision. Funding will be continued for those students making satisfactory progress. The department reserves the right to adjust the level of funding conditional on the availability of funds or the student's academic progress.
