TEACHING TAKE-AWAYS: TEN IDEAS FOR PROMOTING INCLUSIVE, HIGH-LEVEL CLASSROOM DISCUSSION

Andrea Giampetro-Meyer

Professor of Law & Social Responsibility

Loyola College in Maryland

Workshop participants will experience ten teaching activities and/or techniques they can use in class to create an inclusive classroom that engages in high-level discussion.  An inclusive classroom is an active classroom that invites all prepared students to speak.  High-level discussion strives to promote students’ intellectual development. This workshop promises new ideas for both beginning and seasoned teachers.  Take-aways include written instructions for each activity and/or technique participants experience.  These instructions will remind teachers about how to implement each technique and/or activity.  They will also make clear the learning goals for each technique and/or activity.
