Join with your fellow members of the ALSB to create memories of days long passed with an experience in southern charm and hospitality at three Nashville plantation homes in one evening.
Peach Brandy & Appetizers at the Travelers’ Rest Plantation. We’ll begin with a tour of the Federal style plantation home of Judge John Overton, one of Tennessee’s wealthiest and most influential men. He cultivated prized peaches, which he turned into liquid gold called “Peach Brandy,” so after touring his home, we’ll relax in the gallery while sampling his delightful concoction and snacking on tasty appetizers.
A Hearty Southern Dinner at Belle Meade Plantation. Next, we’ll head over to tour this 1853 Greek Revival style mansion that was a world-renowned Thoroughbred horse farm and stud nursery during the 19th century. After being led on our tour by guides in period costumes, we’ll all sit down to enjoy convivial conversation and a hearty southern dinner consisting of:
a dinner salad; grilled or fried chicken breast or pork loin; seasonal vegetables; & garlic mashed potatoes, accompanied by fresh baked herb biscuits & iced tea or water.
Dessert and Coffee at the Belmont Mansion. We’ll conclude our evening by touring the Belmont Mansion, formerly the home of one of America’s wealthiest women, Adelicia Acklen. This Italian style mansion was completed in 1853, and served as Adelicia’s summer home. It was once recognized as one of the most elaborate and unusual homes In the South. After touring the lavishly furnished mansion and grounds, we will be served desert in the Grand Salon, an elegant room dominated by a regal staircase.
