George A. Zsidisin, Ph.D., C.P.M.
Purchasing and supply management are Dr. Zsidisin’s areas of expertise. He is currently working on two research projects. The first consists of a multi-country longitudinal study examining purchasing strategies, practices, and performance. The second study consists of making comparisons between how North American and European scholars in purchasing and supply management view and rate various academic journals.
Dr. Zsidisin is most proud of two achievements: becoming the Co-Editor of the prestigious Journal of Purchasing & Supply Management and editing his first book “Supply Chain Risk: A Handbook of Assessment, Management, & Performance.”
The book Dr. Zsidisin recommends that all business students should read is “Clockspeed: Winning Industry Control in the Age of Temporary Advantage,”by Charles Fine. “It provides a nice framework to explain how industries evolve and gives credence to the importance of firms being flexible in their structures and supply chains in order to stay competitive.”
What the management professor brings to the classroom is working as a logistics and supply officer, supporting a mechanized brigade in Germany for the U.S. Army, shortly after the end of the Cold War. “Those experiences quickly taught me the criticality of logistics and supply chain management, to the extent that supply chain management can mean the difference between life and death. I do not believe that any other business discipline has such a significant effect.”
On a personal note, Dr. Zsidisin recently visited Lappeenranta, Finland, this past summer. “It was my first time experiencing a traditional Finnish sauna. I highly recommend it.”
