| CHARACTERISTIC | Cooperative Education |
| GOAL | Provides students with practical experience related to their major that will enhance and complement their classroom learning. |
| NUMBER OF SEMESTERS | Two or three semesters interspersed with semesters in school. |
| YEAR IN SCHOOL | During late sophomore or early junior year. |
| WORK ASSIGNMENTS | Students' assignments often increase in difficulty and responsibility as they progress through their college education and they may work in different functional areas. |
| TRAINING | More training by employer than internship. |
| PAY | Most are paid. |
| CREDIT | Students receive a transcript notation: COOP 050, 0 credit hours |
| POST GRADUATION OPPORTUNITIES | Frequently higher starting salaries and higher level of responsibility than interns. |
