The Answers

I'm thinking about changing my major to Marketing and need to talk to someone.

You are welcome to contact any Marketing faculty member during their posted office hours or make an appointment. Once you have officially declared Marketing as your specialization, you will be assigned a specific advisor.

You should see your advisor during posted office hours. Some faculty have sign-up sheets on their office doors, or you can make an appointment.

Can I get internship credit for a job I have?

The Department of Marketing does not give academic credit (hours) for internships. You can register with the Cooperative Education & Internship Program.  Upon completion of your internship, a notation will be made on your transcript.

How can I drop a class?

Before the last day to drop/add (the deadline date can be found on the Registration & Records page on the Web Portal), you can drop a class on MyBGSU.  After the last day to drop/add, you must get your instructor's signature and assigned either Withdraw Pass (WP) or Withdraw Fail (WF).  Then take the form to your College office.

I need to get into a closed class.

The Department of Marketing uses the automated "Wait List" on the Web Portal.  Students on the Wait List will be notified regarding whether they have been admitted via their BGNet email accounts. You can also check your schedule to see if you've been admitted.

If you add your name to the Wait List, but later decide that you do not want the course, please remove your name from the Wait List so the department has an accurate count of students who are waiting for the course. Thank you!

  1. You have not fulfilled the prerequisite course for this class. If you are currently taking the prerequisite at BGSU, the system will recognize this and allow you to register for the following semester.  If you have taken the prerequisite at another institution but have not received transfer credit as yet or plan to complete the prerequisite at another institution before the following semester begins, you should come to the department office to complete a "Prerequisite Override" form.

  2. You are currently Pre-Business and have not fulfilled the Pre-Professional Core. The College will not allow you to register for a 400-level course until you are officially admitted to B.S.B.A.  Contact the College office if you feel your standing is in error.

Where do I go to sign up for a Minor in Marketing?

You should formally declare your Marketing Minor in your College office because they will audit you for graduation.  However, if you need advising with regard to the requirements for the Minor, you may make an appointment with Dr. Greg Rich, the Department Chair.
